A Digital New Year Ahead

I am so excited to welcome you to the new SCRAP News online. With a new year comes a new focus on the future, with ISRI monitoring and reporting the latest information and intelligence in the recycling world through our newly created digital platform, Scrap News.  With SCRAP News, ISRI has shifted its delivery exclusively to digital communications –  providing a better and more timely way to connect you with ISRI as, not only the Voice of the Recycling Industry, but also as the leader in delivering the news and information you and your business need to remain strong and grow.

As was true with the printed Scrap magazine, it is our hope that SCRAP News will remain as essential to you as recycling is to the U.S. and global economies. My hope is for this site, and related newsletters, podcasts and shareable content, to become invaluable for knowing what is happening at ISRI and in the recycling industry here at home and around the globe. Already, we are providing insights into the new U.S. Administration, Congress and how the recycling industry is faring as the world plans to emerge from the COVID-19 global pandemic.

This shift to digital is happening across ISRI – the COVID-19 pandemic response has shown that our members are increasingly comfortable consuming information online, and many now prefer the virtual environment as a way to ensure they have the most up to date information possible. One of the biggest ways we will see this is with a virtual convention in 2021.  Using a new dynamic digital platform called Hive – not Zoom – we will be providing ISRI members – and all attendees – a completely different convention experience than ever before.  While we had hoped to meet in person this year, health and safety concerns make that simply not possible.  Instead, we’ll be providing the same great content – speakers, exhibits and marketplace opportunities – virtually on an innovative new platform. Stay tuned for more information!

The digital trend in 2021 will reach widely across ISRI, including in our Education and Training offerings, advocacy and grassroots efforts, and more. As we do continue to expand our capabilities, we will be taking advantage of the real-time feedback opportunities that digital platforms provide. Please let us know what you like, what you don’t and how we can shape better products and services for our members.  Please never hesitate to reach out to me at rwiener@isri.org with your ideas and feedback.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more in 2021!
