Global Recycling Day is an Opportunity to Celebrate Recyclers

Global Recycling Day, now in its fourth year, provides an opportunity for people around the world to join together in celebration and recognition of the essential role recycling plays in preserving our precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet. It is a day for the world to come together and put the planet first. ISRI is proud to be a founding sponsor of this important day of recognition.

Each year, the Global Recycling Foundation selects a theme, which highlights different a different aspect of the recycling industry. The theme of Global Recycling Day 2021 is recycling heroes, celebrating the people, businesses and activities that have continued to support recycling during the pandemic.

Recycling is an essential part of sustaining our planet, countries, supply lines, and most importantly our families and people. There are no better examples of recycling heroes than you, the women and men of the recycling industry.

One year ago, when the world as we know it changed, you provided the recycled metal, paper, plastics, and other commodity‐grade materials needed to feed critical U.S. manufacturing operations that produce the rebar, wiring, tubing, transportation, packaging, and other key materials that are needed for everything from construction of new hospitals to the manufacture of new hospital beds, ventilators, toilet paper and other essential supplies needed to keep Americans safe and the economy running during this critical period.

When your local communities needed assistance, you stepped up with food drives, and coordinated with law enforcement to provide much-needed resources.

And of course, as families do, when fellow recyclers needed help due to transportation issues, you stepped up and provided space in your facility to house materials.

When the going gets tough, recyclers get going.

Happy Global Recycling Day! As we join with the world to celebrate the global power of recycling I want to thank You. Your dedication to the recycling industry is what keeps ISRI and the industry strong, and truly makes the world a better place.
