Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré will serve as the keynote speaker for the ISRI Gulf Coast Region’s Summer Convention, which runs June 21-24 in New Orleans. A 37-year U.S. Army veteran who retired in 2008, Honoré will speak Thursday, June 23.
Thanks in large part to his work as commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, established in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Honoré is considered a “go-to expert” on emergency and disaster preparedness, hurricanes, and supply chain and crisis management. As commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, Honoré coordinated military relief efforts in post-hurricane New Orleans, earning the title “The Category 5 Gen” in the process.
Honoré planned and supported the U.S. military response to devastating flooding in Venezuela in 1999 and in Mozambique in 2000. He also planned and oversaw the military response to the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy and the sniper shootings in Washington, D.C. in his role as commander of Standing Joint Force Headquarters-Homeland Security (SJFHQ-HLS), a component command of United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). Following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, Congress tapped Honoré to lead a security review of the U.S. Capitol Complex.
Honoré draws from his experiences managing natural disasters and man-made conflicts to help companies and organizations build a culture of preparedness. Combining candor with real-world leadership lessons, Honoré helps audiences develop a preparedness mindset, and he has a no-nonsense approach to getting the job done.
