New Brunswick, N.J.-based ISRI member GDB International Inc. has expanded its ties in the southeast U.S. with the acquisition of JP Plastics Recycling of Elizabethton, Tenn. JP Plastics’ facility has capabilities for shredding, grinding, washing, elutriation, and optical sorting post-consumer and post-industrial polypropylene and polyethylene. Paper is a byproduct of the company’s processes and is baled onsite.
GDB President Sunil Bagaria closed the deal April 29 with JP Plastics owners Pat Jones and Jeff Wade. “The capabilities that we have now with the equipment of the Tennessee facility opens many more doors and possibilities for GDB,” Bagaria says.
All operations at the Elizabethton facility will continue uninterrupted under the GDB International name. GDB has a customer base in 65 countries and has become one of the leading proponents of conservation of natural resources by encouraging manufacturing companies to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Established in 1993, GDB originally was a trading company, exporting collected plastic film. The company primarily exported low-density, linear low-density and high-density polyethylene. In late 2018, GDB began producing postconsumer recycled resin. The firm employs more than 180 workers in New Jersey, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
